What is Chai?
Chai, a word that simply means "tea" in Hindi, has become a global phenomenon, revered for its rich flavours and health benefits. Originating in the Assam region of India over 5,000 years ago, chai was initially a blend of spices and herbs known as Masala, used for its medicinal properties. Today, chai has evolved into a beloved beverage enjoyed by millions around the world, combining the warmth of tradition with the richness of modern flavors.

The History of Chai
The story of chai is one steeped in tradition. Initially brewed without tea leaves or milk, early versions of chai were concocted as a healing tonic, leveraging the potent properties of spices like ginger, cardamom, and cloves. These ingredients were believed to treat a variety of ailments, from digestive issues to common colds.
As chai spread across India and beyond, it evolved. Tea leaves and milk were introduced, creating the creamy, aromatic beverage we recognise today. This evolution mirrored the diverse cultures and regions where chai became a daily ritual. By the 21st century, chai had cemented its place not just as a drink, but as a symbol of hospitality, warmth, and wellness.
